In science the Fifth Graders have been working hard with our current Einstein kit Microworlds. In this kit students are learning how to use different tools to help them make observations. We first started out trying to draw a penny and quickly realized that it was hard to do from memory. When students were able to use a hand lens it was much easier and they could then see more details. We discovered what qualities a magnifier needed to have to make things larger. (needs to be transparent and curved). The students then moved on to looking even closer at items using a microscope. They had to learn how to adjust the focuse and the amount of kight to beat see the slide. The students are now applying what they have learned to observe living organisms. To day we observed blepharisma, a rosey colored single cell organism, come check them out at open house.
